P1-E Legal and Ethical issues
There are many ethical considerations when looking at social media apps such as cultural censorship. This is were certain countries cannot access parts of my app such as Turkey China and other countries due to their country not having censorship to certain things online.
Censorship- Companies of social media apps need to ensure that any upsetting information that is offensive is deleted as it may upset some viewers. Censorship is the suppression of speech that is offensive or upsetting to groups or individuals. Social media apps may need to censorship some content to make sure all users are protected.
Use of social media content at work:
When thinking about self-regulation, one of the most important things to remember is to make sure you do not cause harm to a company or a workplace or a person or people. In addition, employers should not say anything on social media about their work place or employer. For example, a social worker could not go on social media such as Facebook and write about a case study they have just witnessed; as it would simply be unethical.
Cyberbullying: Many social media apps can be the perfect environment for cyber-bullying. Cyber-bullying is illegal and therefore is a legal issues regarding social media. Cyberbullying can be stopped by banning users from the social media app or other users reporting them.
Impersonation or now regarded as 'catfishing' is a serious problem that poses on social media apps such as Facebook. This is were someone creates an account pretending to be another person. This is dangerous and regarded as an ethical issues and they can cause threats like trying to obtain money or meeting up with someone and hurting them, e.g. a man pretending to be a young boy leads to him meeting the young girl he was catfishing and causing danger to her.
